LIKAMBA STRUGGLES: This public school, plagued by poor funding, serves the poorest children in the area. Middle-class Tanzanian families often struggle to cover private school fees, fearing the dire conditions of public schools. For many, sending children to school during the rainy season is impossible as washed-out roads become impassable.​​

URGENT NEEDS: At Likamba, students lack basic necessities like uniforms, books, pencils, and, heartbreakingly, food. During our last visit, we learned that children were fainting due to inadequate nutrition. In response, we've prioritized providing regular meals alongside our initial infrastructure upgrades. Consistent food access will encourage parents to send their children to school, breaking the cycle of poverty through education.

CLASSROOM CRISIS: Classrooms here are overcrowded, with five children squeezed into desks meant for two, floors and ceilings in disrepair, and broken windows. The kitchen, exposed to the elements, often prevents cooking during heavy rains, leaving children hungry and unable to learn.

MODEL CLASSROOM: Our initial fundraiser created a model classroom, complete with new floors, a fresh coat of soothing blue paint, and spacious desks. This transformation will extend to all 11 classrooms.

SCHOOL UPGRADES: We plan to build an enclosed kitchen with safe cookware, add laying hens for eggs, and plant gardens. Additionally, we'll provide supplies, textbooks, uniforms, and even solar panels for electricity and internet access.

MISSION GROWTH: Upon completing Likamba Primary School, we aim to address other schools in extreme poverty, raising awareness and driving nationwide commitment to educational reform in Tanzania. Together, we can create a brighter future for these children.
